Entrepreneur Support Program

Purpose

Fostering entrepreneurship is one of Governor Rounds’ most critical objectives. That’s why helping turn ideas into reality is a priority of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development.

The South Dakota Entrepreneur Support Program was established to provide financial assistance to people who have an idea for a new business, but lack all the capital necessary to breathe life into their idea. If you are approved for a loan, you may be entitled to a 3-year debt service holiday (no interest or principal payments for the first three years.
By working with a loan officer at the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development, a qualifying small business will be able to secure a loan that can be used to take its idea to that all important next step.

Score Scholarship Program

Each year, SCORE Chapter 157 provides money for scholarships to Western Dakota Technical Institute and to regional colleges. It is intended that these scholarships should be awarded to students whose career objectives are to ultimately become entrepreneurs and businessmen and women. Students interested in these scholarships should apply to the school they wish to attend. In their letter of application, they should include a short statement of the long-term employment and/or business goals they currently envision. If they are awarded a scholarship that does not in any way obligate them to exactly follow those goals in the future. The only purpose of this requirement is to encourage the applicant to begin thinking about a business career.
